Who we are

The Commercial Engine ("we", "us", "our") is a commercial consultancy founded and operated by Will Judd, based in London, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, The Commercial Engine is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice.

Information we collect

We collect information in two main ways:

Through the Commercial Maturity Index (CMI) assessment — your name, work email, job title, company name, company website, approximate revenue band, employee band, business model, primary market and country or region, together with your responses to the 40 assessment capabilities and the Commercial Pulse questions.

Through the Let’s Talk enquiry form — your name, company, email, company website (optional), the type of support you’re enquiring about, and any message you choose to include.

How we use your information

We use the information you provide to:

• Score your CMI responses and prepare your personalised CMI report
• Send that report and any related follow-up to the email address you provide
• Respond to enquiries submitted through the Let’s Talk form
• Where you’ve separately opted in, send occasional commercial insights and updates

Our lawful basis for processing

Where you complete the CMI or submit an enquiry, we process your information on the basis of legitimate interests — specifically, our interest in providing the report or response you’ve directly requested, and your reasonable expectation that we will do so. Where you opt in separately to receive marketing updates, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

How your CMI report is delivered

Your CMI report is not generated or sent automatically. Your responses are reviewed and your personalised report is prepared and sent to you by email, normally within two working days of completing the assessment.

Service providers

We use Netlify to host this website and to process and store form and assessment submissions. Netlify may process your information on our behalf as part of providing that hosting and form-handling service. We do not sell, rent or share your information with any third party for their own marketing purposes.

International data transfers

Our service providers may process or store data outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place (such as standard contractual clauses) to ensure your information continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.

How long we keep your information

We keep CMI and enquiry information for as long as reasonably necessary to deliver your report, respond to your enquiry, and maintain a record of engagements for legitimate business purposes such as ongoing client relationships. We do not currently operate an automated deletion schedule; if you’d like your information deleted sooner, contact us and we will action this promptly.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information, including relying on our hosting provider’s security infrastructure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct inaccurate information
• Ask us to delete your information
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
• Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe your information has been mishandled
